You might be wondering if any t-shirt is worth that much. For Cuts prices, it’s worth getting a second opinion before diving in.

We tested the most popular items from Cuts Clothing to see if this brand built for the sport of business is worth your investment.

Cuts Clothing

Bottom line: Cuts t-shirts are the nicest feeling tees I’ve ever worn. Their pieces also look great together—I really like how well the Prestige Polo pairs with the AO Jogger. Cuts sizing is on the smaller side---for me, the size L was almost too small. I’d prefer a little more breathing room.

Pros:

  • The fabric quality for the t-shirts is excellent---it’s relatively thick so it looks structured, but it feels light and breathable
  • The style of each piece is awesome---they know how to cut the arms and chest for a more flattering look
  • I like their core and seasonal colors---they’re subtle, but still have a lot of variety

Cons:

  • The sizing is on the small side

How hard can it be to find the perfect t-shirt?

Actually…pretty tough.

I’ve spent the past two years picking up tees from all the most popular brands and comparing them against one another. A few stand out.

What’s the tee I wear the most? Cuts.

I picked up four of the most popular pieces from Cuts entire clothing line, including their signature AO Curve Hem Tee, their AO Jogger, the Hyperloop Hoodie, and the Prestige Polo. Here’s what I thought.

What Is Cuts?

Showcasing the fit of the Cuts AO Curve-Hem Tee

Cuts was founded in 2016 and it was originally launched as a part of Steven Borelli’s search for the perfect t-shirt.

Basically, since the plain black t-shirt replaced the suit and tie as the office staple of choice, there weren’t many great options. Cuts was one of the first brands that made a t-shirt to fill that gap.

The idea is that the tee has the premium fit and feel of something that could be worn on Wall Street, but it has the casual look that doesn’t seem out of place in Silicon Valley.

Now, there are a lot of copycat brands that make shirts with more flattering fits in the chest and arms. But at the time—and I remember griping about this—t-shirts were getting bigger, wider, and worse.

So by making a shirt that actually looks good on its own, Cuts exploded in popularity. Now they offer an entire range of clothes for both men and women. Their tees are still their most popular item, but some other favorites are their AO Joggers, the Hyperloop Hoodie, and the Prestige Polo.

Things to Consider Before Buying Clothes from Cuts

Cuts is premium tier. Their clothes aren’t cheap. I come across a lot of brands, so I maintain a healthy dose of skepticism.

As much as my 22-year-old self would disagree: I think the cost is worth it.

While a Cuts tee at full price is over $50, I think the value is there. I wear my Cuts tee usually twice per week. And because the fabric is so high quality (it’s a robust synthetic blend), my tee still looks brand new even though I’ve washed it probably 10 times.

So while a $20 tee feels more reasonable, when I think of the cheaper t-shirts I have that sit in the bottom of my drawer because they just don’t look as nice when I’m wearing them, it’s pretty clear that having fewer, better things is the way to go.

Cuts Clothing Review

Cuts Shirts

Cuts Tee

I’ll come out and say it at the top: the Cuts AO Curve-Hem Tee is my favorite t-shirt.

While the cut and style of the shirt is the main reason why people buy, I was actually more impressed with the fabric quality.

The fabric is super soft and has a bit of stretch to it. Most importantly, it doesn’t fade, pill, or fray in the wash.

The tee you see me wearing in these pictures? I’ve probably washed it 10 times so far, and it still looks like it’s brand new.

Even my other premium tees can’t match that.

And the fit is also pretty special, though I think Cuts tees are definitely on the small side.

Cuts clothes are, in general, made for slimmer guys—I noticed that everything I got from them seem to be made for guys with a bit more of a lanky build then me.

I’m 6’1” and 200lbs, and I’m wearing the size L. The size L fits me perfectly in the shoulders, but it feels a little too snug in the chest and around the torso. The most important thing to get right on your shirts is the fit in your shoulders, so I’m confident in my sizing choice.

I’m still in my cut (I mean losing weight—no pun intended), so when I drop another five pounds, this shirt is going to fit perfectly.

But I think that’s an important consideration for you: are you a bigger guy? If so, you may want to size up from what you’d normally get. Or, even better, check out the Classic-Fit that Cuts offers on some of their best selling colors.

I picked up the Cuts Signature-Fit, and I’d say that it’s definitely for slimmer guys. The look is great, and even though I’m a bit wider on top, I still think the Cuts tee is one of the most flattering things I have in my wardrobe.

Pro tip: get a black tee to start. If you’re not sure on a brand’s sizing, a plain black tee is going to look flattering even if it’s a tad snug on you.

Cuts AO Curve-Hem Tee

I’ll come out and say it at the top: the Cuts AO Curved Hem Tee is my favorite t-shirt. The fabric is super soft and has a bit of stretch to it. Most importantly, it doesn’t fade, pill, or fray in the wash. The fit is also pretty special, though I think Cuts tees are definitely on the small side.

Cuts AO Jogger

Cuts AO Joggers on Model
The Cuts AO Jogger in black pairs nicely with the Cuts Prestige Polo in mountain mist

I’ve seen a lot of brands tout their joggers as “everyday” staples, but this is the first set of joggers I’ve worn that I actually feel like I’m “dressing up” when I put them on.

The fabric is thick and sturdy, so they have a professional look to them. I love that the inseam isn’t too long—I got the size L (waist size 34), and the cuff sits just above my ankle. To me, this is the perfect length for a pair of joggers.

They look crisp and cool: not like a set of pajamas or workout clothes you just decided to wear to dinner.

And the AO Jogger paired with the Prestige Polo and a clean pair of sneakers? I give the look a Borelli-style Italian meatball air-kiss. It’s the outfit I put together when I want to look relaxed, cool, and like I ball hard, but in a humble manner.

However, the fit for my body type is a bit off here, too. Since I have a more athletic build and I also have large thighs and glutes, I have a hard time keeping the joggers hiked up.

I could see these fitting perfectly on guys with slimmer builds. But for me, if I don’t wear a belt, my entire ass comes out whenever I sit down or bend over. And I mean the entire ass.

It’s tough, because when I’m standing, the AO Jogger looks incredible. And I know I have the correct size because they fit perfectly at the waist. But they hug my larger thighs so snug that it just pulls my pants down when I walk.

So a belt is a must for you if you have bigger thighs like me.

Cuts Hyperloop Hoodie

Cuts Hoodie Closure

I’m always looking for a great new hoodie, so I picked up Cuts’ new Hyperloop Hoodie. Unlike the rest of my order, I decided to go with an XL size, rather than the L.

Interestingly, the shoulders still fit me perfectly, though the fit has more room in the torso and is longer.

I didn’t even realize that the Hyperloop Hoodie has two pockets in the sides for your hands when I bought it—I barely use these, but when it’s a chilly day, they can definitely help keep my hands warm.

The pockets make the fit a little more boxy and less tapered toward the waist. That said, I like my hoodies with more room in them. If it’s a particularly cold day, I’m usually wearing something thicker underneath, so having a looser fit helps a lot.

I’m also a big fan of the hood and neckline. Rather than a standard hoodie, it has a Jedi-style hood—I don’t know how else to describe it:

This definitely gives the hoodie a rich look to it that elevates it beyond your basic sweatshirt

Cuts Prestige Polo

Cuts polo on model

While the Prestige Polo is lower on the list of Cuts popular items, it’s actually one of my favorite things in the whole bunch.

I used to never like polos, but that’s because the collar would always get floppy, the fabric would usually stretch out, and the arms never looked right.

But the Prestige Polo looks rich, fits right, and the fabric doesn’t get stretched and loose.

Plus, the curved hem elevates this polo beyond your standard frat-fare.

I know the Cuts tees are meant to be “professional,” but call me old fashioned: I just think you need more than a t-shirt to nail the business casual look. But that’s why I like the Prestige Polo so much—it’s firmly business casual, but it’s still cool looking.

What do Other Reviewers Say About Cuts?

After reading through dozens of reviews on Trustpilot, it’s clear that Cuts puts a lot of emphasis on their customer service, too.

I never tested their customer service myself because everything arrived just as I expected. Shipping took a little while—probably five or six days (which is actually kind of hard to wait for when you’re excited about something).

But in general, it seems like when customers have an issue with fit or the fabric, the Cuts team is quick to get a replacement and fix the situation.

Cuts Clothing Alternatives

Fresh Clean Threads

Fresh Clean Tees chocolate shirt medium

If you’re looking for a less expensive alternative to Cuts t-shirts, Fresh Clean Threads is a more-budget friendly option.

However, don’t expect the same quality. I like my Fresh Clean Threads t-shirts a lot, but one thing that bothers me is that their different colors vary in size. I have one XL t-shirt that fits me absolutely perfectly. But every other XL from them is too big. And the L’s are good, but not the same.

For a basic t-shirt, Fresh Clean Threads is a bit easier to stock up on, and they have a similar flattering cut in the chest and arms. The fabric pills more and isn’t nearly as durable.

I still think Cuts is worthwhile because the fabric looks so clean and fresh after dozens of washes. So if you want to look crisp and still look like a baller even when you’re just wearing a t-shirt, then Cuts is the way.

But if you want a less-expensive shirt that fits better than your standard jumbo-pack tee, then Fresh Clean Threads is a good option.

BYLT

Cuts vs BYLT T Shirt Comparison

BYLT cropped up basically as a direct competitor to Cuts. I was so intrigued by BYLT that I actually bought a bunch of their clothes and produced this Cuts vs BYLT comparison

For the short version: I like BYLT’s roomier fit on their t-shirts, but the fabric feels a little too much like a workout shirt and not like an everyday tee. Cuts wins out, but if I were to buy another Cuts tee, I’d get the “Classic-Fit” and not the “Signature-Fit” because I’m a bigger guy.

BYLT Basics

BYLT does everything, from golf to workout to everyday casual clothes. Because of that, they don’t really stand out in any particular category for me. I liked their more relaxed fit compared to their commonly held competitor, Cuts. I think some of BYLT’s designs are “doing too much,” but their tee and polo are two of my favorite pieces I own.

My Thoughts Overall On Cuts Clothing

What I Like

  • The fabric on the t-shirts is thick and structured, but it still feels light and breathable. It’s a fantastic balance between comfortable and professional looking.
  • The style of each piece is really well thought out and every piece I have works really well together. The arms and chest of the t-shirts are definitely flattering.
  • Cuts’ color choices are great—I usually stay away from warmer colors because most brands make them too vibrant, but with the more muted tones, I can expand my color palette and get a greater variety.

What I Don’t Like

  • Across the board, Cuts’ sizing is on the smaller side. I don’t recommend sizing up for anything, but I think guys with slimmer builds fit better into Cuts clothing. For bigger guys, I recommend the “Classic fit” t-shirt rather than the “Signature fit.”

Who is Cuts for?

Cuts is a great brand for you if you’re the kind of person who wants a very simple, high quality wardrobe. If you generally wear the same thing every day and you want those basic items to be the best possible quality, then stocking up on Cuts is the way to go.

The Verdict

I’m a fan of Cuts Clothing

I don’t think there are any other brands that match the quality of their t-shirt fabric. I’ve washed my tee 10 times and it still looks crisp and new.

As for the fit, I’m a bigger guy at 6’1” and 200lbs. If I were to order again, I’d get the “Classic-Fit” instead of the “Signature-Fit.”

For me, the size L signature fit is a bit too snug in the chest, and I’d like a little more breathing room.

But if you’re more lean than I am, the signature fit is going to look fantastic on you.

As for Cuts’ other clothes, they’re all winners. A belt is a must on the AO Joggers for me—because I have bigger thighs, whenever I walk or bend over, the waist tends to drag down. But they look really good, especially when paired with the Prestige Polo

Overall, if you want to build a wardrobe of crisp, top-quality basics and you’re willing to invest a little coin, I think Cuts is one of the best brands you can shop with.
