Gentleman, you’ve made your way here because you already know all about the most superior men’s underwear:
The boxer brief.
Yes, many of us have spent too long cramming our crown jewels into tight confines.
Some of us have spent years floundering in the pure anarchy that’s known as regular boxers.
But we’ve all gathered here today as chosen ones. The ones who understand that boxer briefs are just better.
You’ve found the best style of underwear. Congratulations.
But you’re still not satisfied just knowing the best style.
You must find the absolute best pair.
That’s why we exist.
We’ve been wearing underwear practically since we were born (do diapers count?). And as fashion writers, we’ve been thinking too hard about our underwear for years so you don’t have to.
To make the whole process easier for everyone, we put together a list of our six favorite boxer briefs so you can pick the perfect pair and get on with your life.

The 6 Best Boxer Briefs for Men in 2023
1. T-Bô Ballsy Brief
T-Bô’s Ballsy boxer brief hits the balance between comfort and support. Made with bamboo viscose fibers and elastane, these are our go-to for everyday wear.
They’ve created each line of underwear by consulting their community of over 200,000 men. What they’ve landed on is both stylish and environmentally-friendly.
What We Like
T-Bô offers a trunk version and a long version so you can choose which length you like best. We’re still torn on which we like better.
The brand makes all their underwear with bamboo viscose. This fabric has very little impact on the environment, is naturally moisture-wicking, and is antimicrobial.
A deep U-shaped pouch offers a ton of support.
What We Don’t Like
Their color options are still somewhat limited (though they’re working on expanding their selection).
What Other Reviewers Say
Looking through the Facebook reviews, the consensus seems to be this: super-comfortable fabric and overall great fit. Some felt that these were a little snug, especially in the backside.
We took T-Bô for a spin and we can see where they’re coming from, but we didn’t find the fit to be an issue. Since T-Bô runs only up to XL, the sizing issues may stem from the lack of a 2XL or larger size.
The Verdict
For ethically sourced, ethically produced, comfortable boxer briefs that give you the support and value you’d expect from a great pair of underwear, T-Bô is the way to go.
We’ve never seen a men’s essentials brand go to the same length as T-Bô does when creating new products. They don’t start drafting until after they’ve figured out exactly what their community of over 200,000 men is looking for.
Once they know what their fans want, they make it happen and they do it with as little environmental impact as possible. What’s not to love about that?
T-Bô’s bamboo blended fabric and deep pouch support make these underwear a great choice for day-to-day wear and hitting the gym after work. The brand currently has limited color options, but the co-creation model they use to launch new products is one-of-a-kind.
2. Tani USA Silk Cut Classic Boxer Brief
Tani USA isn’t about gimmicks or crazy patterns. They make simple, modern underwear with a focus on comfortable fabrics.
What We Like
The SilkCuts are the softest underwear we’ve ever tried.
They’ve lasted us years without warping or wearing out.
Simple, Attractive range of color options.
What We Don’t Like
Tani land on the pricey side of the spectrum.
What Other Reviewers Say
Over 500 reviews give Tani a near-perfect score. We couldn’t help but notice the number of exclamation points throughout the reviews. Customers were really impressed with how soft these boxer briefs are.
We felt the same way when we tried TANI for ourselves.
The Verdict
If you’re an underwear purist, Tani is your brand.
You’re not getting any pouches for extra support, no unique patterns—just conventional design with an amazingly soft fabric.
A pair of these boxer briefs might make you think twice, but when you consider just how durable these are, you’re getting a great value.
Tani makes the bold claim that their SilkCuts are “the most comfortable boxer briefs you will ever find”. After now owning them for several years, I have to agree.
3. Pair of Thieves SuperSoft Boxer Briefs
These boxer briefs are made with Viscose, so you’re getting a deluxe fit and feel.
What We Like
Viscose fabric is nearly as soft as Tani’s micro-modal.
These shrink less and breathe much more than cotton.
Minimal logo on an excellent waistband.
What We Don’t Like
The inseam is a bit short for guys with large thighs.
What Other Reviewers Say
Pair of Thieves has a 4.4 rating with over 175 reviews. People who picked up one pair of Viscose boxer briefs mentioned they were going back for seconds.
When we tried these underwear for ourselves, we couldn’t help but pick up a few pairs, too.
The Verdict
Pair of Thieves claims it’s the Rolls-Royce of underwear. They’re not too far off.
Their Viscose fabric makes for one of the softest boxer briefs we’ve tried.
Viscose has that special "new blanket" feel you're always chasing. Factoring in their Spandex stretch, the viscose fabric makes this staple from Pair of Thieves one of the softest boxer briefs we’ve tried.
4. Separatec Everyday Boxer Brief
Separatec took the pouch concept to the next level. Not just one pouch, but two pouches. One for your marbles and another for your main event. The support is outrageous.
What We Like
The dual-pouch system is unique and offers more support than you can find in any other pair of underwear.
The addition of Spandex means these keep their shape well over the years.
What We Don’t Like
Because your member is tucked in his own pouch, it looks a little odd. But it’s the tradeoff you may for the support.
What Other Reviewers Say
Trustpilot gives Separatec an “excellent rating” with over 175 reviews. It’s a unique concept and customers all seem to enjoy what they get.
We loved the brand when we gave them a shot for ourselves.
The Verdict
Sometimes you’ve got to bump up the support. If deep-pouch underwear just doesn’t cut it for you, check out Separatec.
Some of the other brands listed here offer softer fabrics, but nothing is like their dual-pouch system. The brand has meticulously designed its underwear and the result is a unique idea that we’ve never seen.
If you’re giving Separatec a shot for the first time, prepare for a little adjustment period—chances are your meat and two veg have never spent much time apart.
This brand just shows that sometimes separation can be a good thing.
It takes a little time to get used to separating your main man and your boys in your underwear. But when it all clicks, you'll wonder why you didn't give Separatec a try sooner.
5. MeUndies Boxer Brief
MeUndies started as a subscription-based underwear brand, but they’ve become so popular that they now sell their beloved designs directly to the public.
What We Like
Huge variety of fun designs, plus some classics if you’re more conservative with your underwear colors.
Their subscription service is an easy way to keep a steady stream of cool looking, comfortable underwear coming your way.
Membership gets you discounts on all loungewear so you can step up your pajama game.
What We Don’t Like
Of all our listed items, these are the least soft. But then again, it’s like comparing a cloud to whip-cream. They’re both soft, but one’s just softer.
What Other Reviewers Say
Reviewers on Trustpilot give MeUndies a four-out-of-five rating. Customers enjoy the unique and fun patterns, plus the subscription model means you’re always getting new styles to wear.
The Verdict
If you like a little spice in your life and you’re ok not knowing what your underwear is going to look like until they show up at your door, give MeUndies a try.
If TANI is for the no-frills, all-serious underwear seeker, MeUndies does the opposite. They’re all about their patterns.
While you’re at it, pick up a subscription so you can slowly build your stock of fun underwear and never have to worry about going to the mall to buy your favorite boxer briefs again.
MeUndies makes some of the softest underwear and loungewear I’ve ever tried. While the MicroModal isn’t the greatest material for workouts, the comfort is outstanding.
6. Tommy John Cool Cotton
Tommy John makes luxury-level boxer briefs like none other. Their Cool Cotton fabric is supremely comfortable, breathable, and offers plenty of support for your manly bits.
What We Like
Standard lengths and extra long lengths available.
Luxury-level boxer briefs that are supremely comfortable.
The Cool Cotton fabric is perfect for hot summer days.
What We Don’t Like
They’re quite pricey, but well worth it as an investment in your day to day comfort.
What Others Say
Hundreds of folks have tried and reviewed Tommy John’s boxers and swear by them. A lot of people mention being a bit put off by the price at first, but those that took the dive don’t look back.
The Verdict
Tommy John offers luxury level undies for dudes. When we picture the easy life, we picture ourselves wearing Tommy John. Is that weird? Ok, it’s a bit weird, but whatever.
Tommy John's Cool Cotton underwear are a good choice if you're an active guy who wears the same boxer briefs for your workouts. The fabric breathes a bit more than the Second Skin from Tommy John but has all the same excellent design features.
5 Things to Consider When Buying Boxer Briefs
1. Fabric
Fabric is our number one consideration when we’re buying underwear.
Part of being an Adult Man is working on constantly improving yourself, and one way we do that is through exercise. In our college days, when we didn’t have the pocket change to make deliberate underwear choices, jumbo-packs of cotton underwear was the only way to go.
But over the years, our butts started stinking way too much.
Cotton underwear holds on to the moisture released by your nether-regions when you’re going about your day. For some of us, that’s no problem when traveling to and from work. But what happens when you go to the gym?
We’ll tell you what happens. You get a swampy pair of underwear that you have to pry off with a spatula and a pair of tongs.
Not only does your underwear hold on to all your butt-bacteria, but unless you wash your underwear right away, they just sit there, warm and moist, building whole new colonies of unwanted microbes.
After three months or so, your cotton underwear are blown out and they’re practically a biohazard. Not to mention that anytime you work up a sweat, they release an unholy odor.
What’s a guy to do?
Pick up a pair of boxer briefs with an alternative, breathable fabric.
The five pairs we’ve suggested move seamlessly between the office and the gym. You don’t have to worry about washing your underwear right after a workout. Because they’re made with fabrics that don’t soak up moisture, you’ll never be stuck with a pair of underwear that you’ll be afraid of three months after you’ve bought it.
2. Seams
Your seams are more important than you might think. Getting the right type can make all the difference when you’re judging the comfort of a pair of boxer briefs.
There are two major types of seams found in most clothing: the regular seam, and the flatlock seam.
All of the underwear on our list have flatlock seams. Why is that?
As you can see in the picture above, flatlock seams don’t create any unnecessary ridges. Throughout the day, the extra fabric found in the regular seam can rub against your skin and cause chafing. This problem only gets worse if you’re going for a run or doing any sort of exercise.
3. Waistband
The waistband is really more of a personal preference issue. Do you like a thick waistband? Big logos? No logos at all?
Our personal favorite boxer briefs have thick, sturdy waistbands. It’s usually the first thing to wear out for a pair of underwear. Once the waistband gets all bacon-y, it’s hard to feel great about your undies.
Our choices come at a higher price point than you’d find with a jumbo value-pack. But they’ll last much, much longer.
Do the math. What’s better?
One $10 pair of underwear that lasts six months (and you don’t feel great in them). Or one $20 pair of underwear that lasts two years (and you feel like freakin’ Adonis).
If you’ve never invested in a high-end pair of underwear, you’re in for a treat.
4. Fly
Are you a fly guy? Your author here has never personally seen the point of a fly. But then again, he hasn’t heard much either way regarding the helpfulness of underwear flys. Nobody talks about it. Maybe that’s not a bad thing.
Either way, if you have a preference going with or without a fly, take it into account when buying your boxer briefs.
5. Support
Some of the options we’ve listed have specific designs built to give your cargo a little extra support.
Sometimes support can come at the cost of an attractive silhouette.
T-Bô hits the balance nicely by creating an extra deep pouch so you have a little breathing room (plus a pretty virile profile-view if we’ve ever seen one).
Separatec is on a whole different level when it comes to support. They’ve actually built in different compartments for your buddies to live in. The comfort and support are amazing, but they make your member sort of look like one of those plague masks they wore back in the dark ages. We still love ‘em though.
Debriefing
Alright gents, there’s our five favorite boxer briefs on the market right now.
If you’re looking for a good balance between comfort, support, and looks, check out T-Bô.
If you want support and you don’t care what it looks like, Separatec is your go-to.
But if you’re all about comfort and super-soft fabrics, TANI and Thieves Gold have you covered.
If you just don’t want to think about underwear anymore, we certainly don’t blame you. Pick up a subscription from MeUndies and be done with the whole thing.
It’s time to let go of those holey rags we’ve been calling underwear for the past few months. Take a look at one of our favorite brands and upgrade your downstairs basics.
